In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

初めに、神が天と地を創造した

初めに、神が天と地を創造した。
地は形がなく、何もなかった。やみが大いなる水の上にあり、神の霊は水の上を動いていた。
そのとき神が「光よ。あれ。」と仰せられた。すると光ができた。
神はその光をよしと見られた。そして神はこの光とやみとを区別された。
神は、この光を昼と名つ゛け、このやみを夜と名つ゛けられた。
こうして夕があり、朝があった。弟一日。

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 
Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep,
and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.
And God said,“Let there be light,” and there was light.
God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness.
God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.”
And there was evening, and there was morning―the first day.
