　真夜中ごろ、パウロとシラスが神に祈りつつ賛美の歌を歌っていると、
ほかの囚人たちも聞き入っていた。
　ところが突然、大地震が起こって、獄舎の土台が揺れ動き、
たちまちとびらが全部あいて、みなの鎖が解けてしまった。

　About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God,
and the other prisoners were listening to them.
  Suddenly there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken.
At once all the prison doors flew open, and everybody's chains came loose.
